Review rogaine foam-Does rogaine foam work?

    December 1st, 2008

    rogainefoam

Rogaine Foam has gained much notoriety in the past 2 years as an effective means for regrowing hair in men. In this article we’ll take a look at some rogaine reviews and determine whether rogaine foam actually works or not!

In short, YES,it does work, and it actually works a whole lot better than the regular version of rogaine-Without going on as oily as the previous version.

Of course this also allows for the product to dry much, much quicker.

I’ve been using the foam for just over 6 months now. My impression is that the Rogaine foam does indeed live up to it’s hype.

My hair does feel a little stiffer after application, but I don’t mind, especially if it’s helping to regrow my hair.

If I applied the regular minoxidil in the morning , my hair would look as if I bathed in crisco!…..Not very nice at all!

An added benefit is that with the Rogaine foam, your scalp won’t itch! This one benefit of the rogaine foam vs. minoxidil alone is quite a reason for any man to switch to the foam!

Altogether,I give the Rogaine foam two big thumbs way up! The fact that the foam doesn’t leave my hair as awfully unpleasant and it’s not a hindrance as the regular minoxidil alone is enough for me to switch!

And to be quite honest,I have even noticed a greater overall density in my crown and vertex areas!

What REALLY causes hair loss in men?

    August 1st, 2008

    men_hair

Men typically lose their hair with age, but sometimes the process can begin as early as the late teens. Very few men nowadays just sit back and accept this. This condition can often create anxiety and depression in many men. Not to mention the self-esteem and confidence levels drop significantly.

While andro-genetic alopecia is the main cause of hair loss in men, there are always other causes to consider.

    1. Psychological problems. Depression, anxiety and stress can cause significant thinning of the scalp. Not only that, this type of hair loss is extremely hard to treat. Stress and anxiety often go unnoticed, so many men do not realize how this affects their hair loss. Anxiety is helped and increased by the hair loss itself. No man feels at ease seeing his hair fall out, so the problem becomes worse. Maybe anxiety and hair loss go hand in hand?

The HairMax Lasercomb is a great option for dealing with hair loss from stress and anxiety. Propecia is the other treatment option you might want to consider.

    2. Certain medications may be the contributing factor to hair loss in men. Steroids are the usual suspects.

    3. Localized stress to the hair. This can be caused by excessive hair dye’s, excessive scratching of the scalp(from dandruff, lice or scabies). Using hair bands or tying hair in complex designs, such as cornrows can also cause localized stress which may lead to excessive hair loss in men.

    4. Inflammation of the scalp. Skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and seborrhea can cause patches of hair loss, usually from the scaly skin at the scalp. Bacterial infections, such as folliculitis of the hair roots can also cause shedding and damage to hair. Patches of hair loss without accompanying redness or irritation may be a sign of the autoimmune condition, alopecia areata.

    5. Natural hair-growth variations. Hair normally grows for several years, fall out, then grow all over again. A healthy person sheds approximately 100 strands of hairs a day. When natural hair-growth variations are occurring, hair might fall out more than usual, causing alarm.

    6. Hormonal changes and abnormalities. There are various hormonal conditions that can contribute to hair loss. The thyroid gland is highly responsible for this. Too much or too little thyroid hormone can cause hair loss or even general thinning on the scalp. When testosterone is elevated this also can cause hair loss in men. For diabetics, high levels of insulin can cause hair loss. Certain body building supplements also tweak testosterone and hormones that can cause hair loss.

How to Stop Hair Loss - Hair Loss Product Review

    June 27th, 2008

The age old question so many men still ask: How to stop hair loss? In this article we’ll take a look at some effective hair loss product review and establish which ones you should invest in and which are just a waste of your time.

There are probably only a handful of hair loss products and hair loss tools that you can use that will help combat hair loss in men. The fact remains:There are tons of snake oil products on the market that simply don’t work!

I’ll make it easy on ya. The only products that work goes as follows:

    1.Hair Transplant Surgery

    2.Propecia

    3.Hair Max Laser Comb

    4.Saw Palmetto

    5.Rogaine Foam 5%

That’s pretty much it guys, right there, that list of 5 hair loss products.

    HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY

Your best option by far is hair transplants by a highly qualified surgeon. There are a handful of surgeons today that have really perfected the art of hair transplant surgery and can really offer a great solution to minor to moderation hair loss. But how to stop hair loss if you don’t have the thousands of bucks to pony up for hair transplants? This leads us to our next options.Of all the hair loss product review, surgery beats all other options and can truly work wonders in most men.

    PROPECIA

The rx standard of choice hair loss treatment for hair loss in men. Taken once daily, this DHT blocker has a great track record for being effective in over 90% of men, even helping to regrow hair in the majority of men. While it is is great hair loss tool and can help prevent hair loss in men, it’s benefits are lost if you come off the drug.

    HAIRMAX LASER COMB

The Hair Max Laser Comb is another great hair loss remedy for hair loss prevention for men, helping to regrow at least 10% density in over 80% of men! And it is now also FDA approved.

    SAW PALMETTO

The herbal hair loss treatment of choice, it’s results has often been compared to propecia’s. It’s even called the "natural" propecia!

In clinical trials, saw palmetto extract has shown remarkable improvements in hair density in over 60% of men! What’s more, this herbal choice can help stop hair loss also by even regrowing hairs on a receding hairline!

    ROGAINE FOAM 5%

This is probably the least favorable hair loss product review of any hair loss treatment since it has a very small chance of actually working for most men. What’s worse is that in the beginning , most men report actually losing more hair! That’s how it works, you must lose hair in the beginning to actually start regrowing hair. Rogaine has a very small success-rate but ,nonetheless is worth trying.

With this arsenal of hair loss tools, you more than likely will be able to regrow some hair density and prevent future hair loss.

Natural Hair Loss Solutions-How to prevent hair loss with hair loss vitamins and natural solutions

    May 2nd, 2008

Natural Hair Loss Solutions to Prevent Hair Loss

The following are some natural remedies that have been explored for how to prevent hair loss and may even regrow hair….Naturally! So how do we really help prevent hair loss naturally? Are there really any natural hair loss solutions? This article will  unravel all the natural hair loss solutions and hair loss treatments that has been proven to be somewhat effective on one level or another! So here we go:

    1) Essential Oils

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study examined the use of a combination of essential oils or a placebo oil in 86 people with alopecia areata. The combination oil was a mixture of thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood essential oils in a mixture of carrier oils (jojoba and grapeseed). This oil was massaged into the scalp daily. The control group used only the carrier oils for their massage, also daily.

After 7 months, 19 (44%) of 43 people using the essential oil blend showed an improvement compared with 6 (15%) of 41 people in the control group. Although no side effects were associated with the topical application of essential oils, they may cause allergic reactions in some people.

    2.Hypnosis

A preliminary study explored the use of hypnosis on hair growth and well-being in people with alopecia. The study involved 28 people with extensive alopecia hair loss, or alopecia universalis who did not respond to previous conventional treatments.

After treatment with hypnosis, all patients had a significantly lower score for anxiety and depression. Hair regrowth of 75% to 100% was seen in 12 people after 3 to 8 sessions of hypnotherapy. Total regrowth occurred in 9 of these 12 people. In 5 people, a significant relapse occurred.

There were major limitations to this study, however, including the small size of the study, the lack of a placebo group, and the fact that the study was not double-blind. Larger, well-designed studies are needed.

    3.Hair Max

Laser Comb- FDA approved and proven to regrow hair by as much at least 10% in respondent individuals! The success rate ocurred in more than 90% of participants, hence the FDA approval. Safety was also an important factor and the HairMax Laser comb proved to have no important, hazordous side-effects.

    4.Aromatherapy

The results of one research study suggest that the essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood mixed with an oil and applied on the areas of hair loss may stimulate hair growth. This double blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled 84 people who who massaged either these essential oils or a non-treatment oil into their scalps each night for seven months. Results showed that 44% of people in the treatment group had new hair growth compared to only 15% in the control group.

    Hair Oil Recipe

  • 3 drops of essential oil of thyme
  • 3 drops of essential oil of lavender
  • 3 drops of essential oil of rosemary
  • 3 drops of essential oil of cedarwood
  • 1/8 cup of grapeseed oil
  • 1/8 cup of jojoba oil
    1. Mix the ingredients together. Cover your pillow with an old towel. Apply several drops of the mixture to areas of hair loss each night, massaging gently into scalp for 3-5 minutes. Store the oil tightly covered. Do not take internally or near the eye area.

      Ayurveda
Bhringaraj oil or brahmi oil are applied to the scalp regularly to stimulate hair growth. The Ayurvedic herbs ashwagandha and amla are also reported to stimulate hair growth.

      Traditional Chinese Medicine
In traditional Chinese medicine, hair loss is linked to kidney deficiency syndrome. Other symptoms of kidney deficiency are weakness and fatigue and low back weakness. Kidney energy is believed to naturally decline with age, but people with early or accelerated hair loss may have particularly weak kidney energy. Kidney tonics are usually recommended.

      5.Diet
A diet that contains whole foods, particularly the outer skin of plants such as potatoes, cucumbers, green and red peppers, and sprouts can give strength to hair because they are rich in the mineral silica. Foods that are high in iron, such as lean meats, are important for people with a known iron deficiency.

      6.Nutritional Supplements, Vitamins & Herbs
Saw palmetto hair loss has been proven to be a really effective hair loss treatment.

Saw palmetto oil is also an accepted treatment for benign prostate hyperplasia in men. It appears to interact with various sex hormones, including dihydrotestoseteron (DHT). DHT is produced from testosterone by enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. Like most enzymes, it can be inhibited. There has been great medical interest in subtances that have the potential for inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase, and thereby preventing or treating benign prostate hyperplasia. Theoretically, saw palmetto could have also be used to block DHT and prevent hair loss. Saw palmetto is believed to have a similar mechanism of action to the anti-androgenic drug finasteride (Propecia), which has been used in low doses for hair loss.

Folic acid, biotin, vitamin B5, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), and silica are supplements that may help maintain the color and thickness of hair.

Be sure to check your daily intake of zinc through supplements. Intake of 30 mg or higher for more than three months can induce a deficiency of copper, and low copper levels can result in hair loss. Speak to a health practitioner before supplementing copper to avoid copper overdose.

      7.Onion Juice

A study published in the Journal of Dermatology examined the effectiveness of onion juice or placebo in people with alopecia areata. Twenty-three people with alopecia areata applied the onion juice twice daily for two months, and 15 people applied tap water twice daily for two months.

People in the onion group began to experience regrowth of hair after two weeks of treatment. At four weeks, hair regrowth was seen in 17 (73.9%) people and at six weeks, hair regrowth was observed in 20 (86.9%) people. Improvement was significantly higher among males. In the tap water control group, hair regrowth was apparent in only 2 people at 8 weeks.

So there you have it! Using these natural hair loss solutions you can be sure to increase some hair on your temples, so try some of these natural hair loss solutions today!

Avodart- new “miracle drug” hair loss treatment for men?

      February 9th, 2008

Avodart(chemical name Dutasteride) is secretly being hailed by many men who know of it’s existence as the new "miracle" drug hair loss treatment for halting hair loss and even creating new hair growth in most cases.

Avodart® (Dutasteride 0.5mg): The first dual-acting 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), approved by the FDA. Avodart® reduces the 2 enzymes responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT – which is a primary concern in hair loss. Where Propecia (Finasteride) only blocks one enzyme, by blocking both Avodart’s® result could be better. Avodart can officially be released on the market as a hair loss medication any day now and is pending FDA approval. The clinical trials are still in processing. So far there has been 2 phases lasting well over 3 years. The FDA wants to primarily test the safety of this drug for hair loss over long term usage as well as it’s long term benefits for hair loss.

Dutasteride, a second-generation 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor, is the first and only medicine to inhibit both the type 1 and type 2 enzymes responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the primary cause of prostate growth. Dutasteride’s dual inhibition has been found to decrease levels of DHT by 90 percent at two weeks and 93 percent at two years.

"With dutasteride, we now have a medicine that reduces the production of DHT by more than 90 percent, helping to shrink the prostate," said Claus Roehrborn, MD, a principal trial investigator and professor and chairman of the Department of Urology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas , Texas .

The most notable results as we know are observed in men taking 2.5 mg daily. In both phase I and II Avodart has been proven to work for over 90% of participants.

I have been personally using Avodart 2mg daily for 2 years and the results have been tremendous. I believe it has helped me regrow approximately 40% of my lost hair and greatly increase scalp density and overall thickness of my individual hair strands.

Results like this were never experienced while taking propecia for 2 years previously to my Avodart treatment.

In beginning any hair loss treatment regimen consult with your doctor first if Avodart would be an effective treatment for hair loss. It is also important to monitor your progress and let your doctor know of any side effects or concerns you may have while on treatment.

As for myself there weren’t any hugely noticeable side effects except for some headaches in the first 2 weeks of treatment which, eventually subsided shortly thereafter.

I’m highly anticipating an FDA approval sometime soon. My results have been great and I continue to maintain them even 2 years after beginning treatment with Avodart. I’d take my Avodart anyday over propecia and this is strictly results based.
