    gas saving tips

With gas prices at it’s all time highest, you’d think drivers would would be desperately seeking all the gas saving tips they could find!

SO what can we do about gas prices and the rising costs?

You’d be surprised how many common mistakes we make daily and easy ways to increase gas mileage that goes overlooked.

In this article we’ll unravel 6 surprising ways your wasting and running up your gas costs and what you can do about it.

#1. Burning rubber as soon as the light turns green. The pedal under your foot is called the "gas pedal" for good reason! The more abusively you use it, the more gas you are burning away unnecessarily! Next time, just press lightly on this gas pedal when taking off from a stop light. This is quite possibly the #1 way to improve gas mileage. Speeding off is unnecessary and will ultimately end up costing you a whole lot more out of pocket.

#2. Speeding up to red lights. So many people do this! There’s no point in speeding up to a red light. By themselves, the first two gas saving tips can improve your fuel economy by as much as 35% according to automotive information website Edmunds.com

#3. Tailgating. This is just a bad move for so many reasons. The main one being it’s just plain out unsafe practice. Also , tailgating simply wastes gas, especially when your driving-stoping,driving-pulling brakes, etc, etc…You catch the drift.

As a rule of thumb, allow 2 second spaces between you and the car in front of you.

#4.Don’t confuse the highway for the speedway. Even if you aren’t driving with hard acceleration, speeding in general wastes gas. And you wanna know the silly thing? You’d get to your destination almost at the same time by just driving normally(give or take a minute or so). Driving faster reduces fuel economy between 3-7 miles per gallon, depending on the vehicle.

#5.Using your vehicle for short or very short destination trips. Going to the store down the street? Get your lazy butt up and walk! Not only will you be saving gas, but you’ll also burn off extra calories! Talk about hitting two birds with one stone!

#6.Driving standing still. It’s a common misconception that each time you restart your car, it uses a lot of gas to do so. Well this just isn’t true anymore, especially with modern fuel-injected engines! When your driving and the car is standing still, your car burns a half-mile worth of gas every single minute, according to the United States Energy Commission.

It’s the main reason why hybrid cars shut down their gas engines whenever they stop, even if for just a moment. A great example would be if your waiting for someone to run in and out of a convenience store, simply turn off your engine whilst waiting.

    Another neat trick? Avoid drive-thru’s.

Another bonus tip: Don’t worry with warming up your engine. Just start the car and go as usual. Just be gentle in the beginning…Your car will warm up automatically shortly thereafter.

#7. Another great way to improve gas mileage is to maintain your car regularly. Such as keeping your can tuned up regularly, replacing your air filter when recommended, keeping the proper air pressure in your tires, changing your oil regularly and of course using the right gas for your car.

According to the Fuel Economy Commission making these improvements will save you 45 cents per gallon!!
